Martin Lane is an avid music fan, and adores classical and opera. His broad musical knowledge is apparent when testing his skills to recognize tunes. He loves a challenge and will play the tune of any famous song from hearing only 2 notes.
He performs as a solo artist but also enjoys playing for other artists. He regularly plays the organ, piano and keyboard and has a repertoire of over 1200 classical and light music items, all memorized!!
He has written several songs (either composed or written lyrics) for artists including Ge Korsten, Rina Hugo, Herbie and Spence, Roy Bulkin, Tameletjie, Vicki du Preez, Sonja Herholdt, Jurie Els, Rudi Neitz, Barbara Veenemans and much more. As translater, he is well known for the song "Heidi", recorded by many South African artists. |  |
His peaceful style on any instrument has made him an everyday name and he has released 26 albums already! He has been involved in broadcasting since 1966 and is currently in service at RSG's music department. In 2010 he started his own Classical Lable called "Martin Lane Classics" with EMI.
Martin Lane drew a lot of attention with the fifties hit "Remembrance" (by Freddie Carle) and became a favourite amongst lovers of piano music. His devoted fans inform him of classics they would love him to record.
His album "Piano Moods" received golden status in September 2003, selling over 25 000 copies. He has performed at over 6 000 functions, weddings, burials and corporate events. His most recent performances include Innibos [Nelspruit], the AULA [Tukkies campus] and several well publisized media weddings of these celebrities: Christo Snyman [Snyman Broers], Jurie Els and Hestrie, Alvin Bruinders and Anrika, Schalk Baard [Navi Redd] and Mandi ["Lara" from Egoli], Etienne Ludick of RSG and the popular singer Rudi Muller. Two more Navi Redd weddings followed in May 2010 ["Sparky"] and in June 2010 ["Hennie"].
